How sad it is, that some soldier in some far away country, fighting for my freedom died…
Now I’m not saying any soldier in Afghanistan or Iraq deserved to die, but come on… Had they read the job description when they joined the army, (or had they gone to school and learnt about the World Wars) they would have realised that the primary objective of the army is to fight in wars.
Everyone acts so shocked that people have died, and whilst I consider the Iraq war somewhat illegal, there is no excuse whatsoever for joining the army and not being prepared to kill other people and die.
You don’t join the fire brigade just to rescue cats from trees and resign when you’re sent out to deal with a fire, so why complain when you’re made to fight? Why do parents not realise what their child is signing up to? It’s not all marching about in the UK, as that is not what the army is for, so:
If you wish to go to war - join the army.
If you wish to march about looking nice like a pansy - join a marching band.
