Kangie’s Rant

{June 19, 2006}   Fathers Day

Fathers day… a day to celebrate and thank those who have been a father figure to you throughout your life.

Now can someone please explain where cards that say: “To my Husband on Fathers Day” come from?! Does the word Father not suggest it is perhaps a time to give your Father (not your sister, grandmother, son, cousin) a card? Ok, so at a push, an uncle or stepfather who has acted like a father to you would deserve to recieve a card, but your husband?!

It’s not like it’s just Fathersday that has turned into a biiiiig competition to see just how much money Card producing companies can make out of you, its every holiday/celebration throughout the year. “From the cat to the dog on Christmas” and “to my sister on Mothersday”…

It just gets stupider, and makes everyone forget what the celebration is all about.

At the end of the day, its the thought that counts, and should I choose to write my message on a post-it-note, it would still have the same meaning, so come on people! Boycott daft cards.
