I’ve often saidto someone “How do you…..?” or, “Where can I find…..?”, and all you get is some roundabout reply that says nothing in particular, and certainly doesn’t tell you what you wanted to know.
Has no-one heard of the phrase “if you don’t have anything nice useful to say, don’t say anything at all” these days?!
If I ask a direct question like, “where can I buy chocolate?”, I expect a nice reply that contains a range of places where I can buy chocolate, and not one that just consists of “I’d like some chocolate” / “I know where you can buy carrots” / “I’m not telling, go any find out for yourself.”
Especially that last one, because please note: had I wanted to find out for myself without asking someone, I think I would have done so by now, don’t you? People don’t seem to realise that you ask questions because you need help, and not just because you’re lazy and haven’t tried to find out for yourself already, because 99% of the time, I have tried, and it didn’t work!
